I must be a very strange outlier, because I can ride my 250 smoker much, much faster than I can any 4-stroke - 250 or 450. Easy to ride? Give me a 2-stroke. 4-strokes feel so weird to me. I can't time rhythms, gauge jump gaps very well, or even corner the things.

4 strokes are also easier to correct while in the air because of the torque so whips and correcting from endos will be easier. However a 450 has a lot of power and if you are a beginner i would settle with a 250 4 stroke or a 125 2 stroke. tldr; 2 strokes are a lot more fun to ride but harder to learn, 4 strokes are easier for beginners.

I ride a 250 2 stroke and ride with 400-450's and 520's all the time. Its neck and neck (faster 75% of the time) with a built 450 and an equally skilled rider of equal weight. It'll hang with a 520 most of the time depending on the gearing. But, I can take a totally different line through the turns than I could on a 4 stroke and corner much.
